All children starting with us are allocated a Key Person; a member of staff who will ensure that they settle in to the pre-school securely. They will take information given by parents about their child on their induction day, observe the child during their first few sessions and then make a baseline assessment. This baseline assessment will then help the Key Person to plan activities within the child's interests to aid their development. Key Persons then continue to observe children in their play and record achievements on their Developmental Overiew; the Early Years Foundation Stage, EYFS.
Here at Anlaby Park Methodist Pre-School, we work to make sure that all children are prepared for the transition up to primary school. We work closely with local primary school teachers, passing on reliable and detailed information about each child to ensure the smooth continuation of learning and development.
If it is felt by a Key Person that a child may need a little extra help in an area of development, they will consult with the pre-school's Senco, Special Educational Needs Coordinator. The two will then work together with parents in planning activities to further aid the child's development.
Some children sometimes need a little extra help from outside specialists; a Speech and Language Therapist for example. Our Senco will work closely with parents in contacting and accessing help from such specialists. The East Riding Early Years Team Senco also works closely with the pre-school, ensuring that all children receive the care and help they need.
